Apparently, food isn’t the only thing that takes up Coco’s brain space. Clothes and accessories also take up a goodly portion. He also has a collection of different horseshoes as well.
Speaking of horseshoes, did you know that they come in various shapes? The type of shoe a horse uses depends on the type of work it’s doing. There’s actually a slight controversy regarding the use of horseshoes. Some feel that horses don’t need them and that it’s better for them to go without it.
Coco’s current shoes are mithril, lined with both cold iron and silver (for those random fey and lycanthrope encounters).
The site is undergoing some changes. Please be patient.
Something happened (not quite sure what exactly) when my hosting site reset their servers and it broke something in my old site (?). I’m going to take this opportunity to finally do some tweaks to the site that I’ve been meaning to do in CSS. It’s going to take me a bit to figure that stuff out, so please bear with this basic site for a few days.
Now is a good time though to let me know if there are any features that you would like to see on the site.
Hello folks. Some have noticed that I haven’t been updating the blog as much as I used to. I’ve been rather busy with various things lately. Unfortunately that trend looks to continue for the next few weeks (this weekend is Pacificon, so I’ll be doubly busy). However, the strip currently has a fair amount of buffer, so Familiar Ground will be updating regularly even if I won’t be around as much.
Hopefully, I’ll be able to devote more time to this site soon and finish the various projects I have lined up for it (D&D content, reviews, site update, etc). In the mean time, the comic will be updating regularly every MWF, and I hope that you continue to enjoy the strip.
Thanks for reading Familiar Ground!
Cedric
I’ll be at Pacificon Game Expo on Labor Day Weekend, Sept 4-7.
Look for me at the RPGA area in the gaming rooms.
Drop on by and enjoy four days of table top RPGs, card games, miniatures, board games, LARPs and all sorts of geeky endeavors.
I won’t have any books or real merchandise to sell, but I’ll still be available if you want to say and hi and get some free sketches or something.
I’ll probably also bring some original art for display as well as hand out flyers.
This is one of my favorite cons of the year, as the staff is always helpful and goes out of their way to make the con experience enjoyable.
Hope to see you all there!
Cedric
It’s a new month here at Familiar Ground. Time to go over some news about the strip.
* I’ll be attending at least two conventions: Pacificon in Santa Clara, the first week of September, and APE in San Francisco, the first week of October. I won’t have stuff to sell yet, so I’ll be attending mostly to mingle and hand out fliers. If you’re attending any of these shows, feel free to say hi!
* Updating the website. I’m still tinkering with the website. I’m doing everything by myself, and since I know next to nothing about html and CSS, it’s taking me some time. If there’s a feature that you want to see added or changed, now is the time to let me know.
* New project. I have a new comic project that I’m working on, but I’m not quite ready to announce it yet. However, I could use some input. If you know of an interesting story, person, place or thing in or around San Francisco and don’t mind sharing it with others, please drop me a line. Examples of interesting things I already have on the list include: Wild Parrots, Bushman of Fisherman’s Wharf, and Letterboxing.
* TopWebComics. It’s the start of a new month and TopWebComics resets its counters. Vote now at TopWebComics to discover some trivia about the comic, author or process of the strip.
So I saw the new Harry Potter movie last week. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Book 6)
I’ve got mixed feelings about it.
On the one hand, the movie went by really fast for me, and losing track of time like that usually means I was entertained.
But I had a bigger problem in that I read the book prior to watching the movie. It’s like Lord of the Rings all over again. I couldn’t help but be annoyed when I saw scenes that weren’t exactly like how I pictured them in my head when I initially read the books. Likewise, I was irked when certain portions of the book were left out or shortened. Intellectually, I know why they did what they did (otherwise the moview woul’ve been 5 hours long). But I still felt cheated, much like when the Barrow Wight encounter was left out in Peter Jackson’s LotR movie.
Also, for those that weren’t expecting it, this particular book might seem a bit out of character from the rest of the Harry Potter books. It dealt more with interpersonal relationships and teenage hormones than the previous movies. The mystery of the Half Blood Prince mitigated that somewhat in the books, but it was given short shrift in the movie. When the identity of the half blood prince was revealed, you sorta got the impression of “oh yeah, we were supposed to care about that weren’t we?”
The movie felt very much like a transitional piece, laying the groundwork for a much bigger story in the future. That’s fine I guess, but I was sorta anticipating more fireworks and special effects and was a tad disappointed that I didn’t get more of it.
So bottomline: I liked it, but not as much as the previous Harry Potter movies.
