When playing a game where monsters are at full fighting efficiency at one hit point, but unconscious at zero, it’s often best to coup de grace an unconscious foe that might receive some healing (i.e. healer present, regeneration, etc).
Monsters that know that the party has a healer should therefore think of coup de grace as a valid use of their action whenever a PC goes unconscious, and yet I rarely see this tactic.
Of course a DM that routinely kills of characters won’t be very popular, but I’m just sayin…
