Calling Card

I met some people recently, and somehow the conversation turned to the fact that I have a comic.  I was asked if I had a business card so they can check it out, but unfortunately I didn’t.

However I’m now in the middle of creating one, but I’m having a difficult time deciding on what to include.  I’m fairly certain I should include the name of the comic, my website address, and my email address.  I’m also fairly sure I don’t want to include my personal phone (I can always write it in if I wanted someone to have it), because I’m most likely to give the card to a random stranger and giving out my personal phone number just feels weird.

But I’m unsure if I should include a tagline for the comic (Epic Fantasy Comedy from a Familiar Point of View) and if  I should include an image (if so, which one?).  Actually, I still need to come up with a logo as well (the current one is a sort of place holder I came up with quickly).

I’m also unsure if I should give myself a title.  I don’t feel that ‘artist’ is the right term and the comic is more than just writing so ‘author’ seems weird.  I guess I can go with ‘creator’ but I don’t want people to think that I mean creator of the universe…

Ah well.  It’s a work in progress.  If anyone has any tips on business cards, I’m all open to suggestions.

I could try my hand at making you a card!

Thanks for the offer, and I’m certainly open to tips, but I think of business cards as representative of the person who gives them, so I think I should definitely be heavily involved in the creation process. Yeah, I’m strange. :)

In Japan, business cards even have a whole ritual in their exchange.

If it’s specifically for this site, you should include a humorous sketch or something to make it stand out. That way, you can still do a simple black & white card, but with something funny on it to get peoples’ attention.

Oh, and I’m shocked that you used that punchline today without a link to GG.

Heh. I had forgotten that there was already a “Gentleman Adventurer” wandering about.

      • Thomar

Oh, he probably won’t mind. I just think that one of them should be aware that he can be confused for a naive, dangerous, white-haired beast.

I think Coco should get intaglio horseshoes so that when he imprints his “calling card” on the bad guys his initials are raised-up instead of depressed-in. Besides, “intaglio” is a much cooler word than “emboss”. :)

Hah! I’ve now got a new word of the day.

I think your current logo is pretty nice, I would recommend that on your card. Even if you change that in the future it still includes the 3 main characters which might be a good idea. I would leave off the phone number too. Yes to the tagline, for the title I would say go with “writer/artist”

Other things to consider is what colors are you going to use? Are you going with the standard sized rectangle, or have it in a different shape? Maybe toads head, or shaped like the top of a d20, or even as simple as a square will stand out.

You know, I never even considered of putting writer/artist?

As for the shape, I’m definitely sticking to the basic rectangle shape. It might just be me, but I get annoyed with people who try to be too clever with their business cards. I mean, really? Do you need to have your business card made out of beef jerky?
