The iPad box (when I bought my 1G iPad, at least) wasn't unduly large, as it had to contain the iPad, the cable, the paperwork, and the charger, and do it all in a crush-resistant box. It did so with flair and elan. I would have been extremely unhappy had my iPad been damaged on account of it being packaged like a cheap cable. Apple has at least done something useful with packaging... they've made it beautiful and applied cleverness to make it a relative joy to deal with. Consider the alternative -- blister-packaging. Far more "efficient", and arguably much cheaper, but the end result is that you know before you an use your shiny new toy you're going to have to risk a minute of frustration, anger, blood, and blasphemy. And that kinda sucks some of the joy out of it. And if you really think that Apple should eliminate their packaging and risk pissing off the customer, well, I hope you're not wrapping any Christmas presents this year. You want to talk about a huge waste -- fancy (often non-recyclable) paper, loads of adhesive tape, etc., just to improve a 'user experience' -- then the holiday season is where you want to start looking. I've seen him within the last couple of weeks. I mean, he could have a cold or something right now, but he's not deathly ill or anything like that. I, like everyone else here, enjoy this strip, but in the last two months or so, I've clicked on some of the ad banners and found other web comics that I'm enjoying. This last unannounced hiatus by Cedric especially given what I actually know has cost him my continued support. For the rest of you, I recommend "The Deadlys" at thedeadlys.com, Wannabe Heroes at wannabeheroes.com (though they are between seasons right now, the writer is updating at least once a week with minor bits and to let us know that he's still alive), and if you like a little cheesecake Grrl Power at grrlpowercomic.com. I've also recently started another one called Twice Blessed at twiceblessedcomic.com, but I haven't formed a strong opinion on it yet.
