Monkey Pawing

I have an experiment. I want to see if I can create a new verb.

Monkey Paw verb
1) To make a thoughtless or poorly planned wish.
2) To make a wish that has unforeseen negative consequences.
Etymology: The title and plot of the horror short story Monkey’s Paw, by W. W. Jacobs, first published in England in 1902.

So please use it in everyday conversation. I’m sure there are many ways it can be applied to every day life.

I would be highly amused if we can somehow get it into the various online dictionaries out there.

Here’s Urban Dictionary. Vote it up!

  1. Z

Throw in some different forms to work with object nouns.

    3) To grant a request in a manner that worsens the situation
“That rude customer I always see demanded I serve him something he’s never had before; I am going to monkey paw him in a big way.”
    4) Monkey pawed – To receive what one has asked for in a form that is particularly unwanted.
“I asked for a pet that could sleep at the foot of my bed, and he put a tarantula in my sheets! I got monkey pawed…

It’s a good idea for a verb, but it might be easier to work 3 or 4 into a conversation.

And since I just realized I haven’t said this before, great comic.

I’m mostly doing this comic for my personal enjoyment, but it’s always nice to hear that others are enjoying it as well. Thanks for reading the comic.. :)
