Highly Upset

Conflicting goals in a party will inevitably lead to intra-party conflict.  I recall one particular game where the group had to recover a macguffin.  We had to decide as a party as to which of three factions to give it to.

The party was randomly organized at a game day, so we didn’t really know one another.  Coincidentally (or not…I never did see the scenario), the group was split amongst three alignment groupings that was naturally suited to supporting one of the three factions in the story.  When it came time to decide which faction gets the item, the party fell naturally into conflict.

The paladin (part of group A) had the actual item and refused to give it up.  Initiative was rolled.  The rogue (faction B) stole it from him and gave it to his cleric ally who started to summon  a lantern archon to teleport it (this was 3e, when such tricks still worked).  Then the monk (who represented faction C) disarmed the cleric and his wizard ally grabbed the item and uttered a teleport to escape with the item.

Apparently we screwed up the scenario because there was supposed to be another hidden faction that was supposed to swoop in at the last minute and steal the item…

What’s the lesson here?  I don’t know exactly.  Make sure your character carries the macguffin and hidden in an extradimensional pocket?  I dunno…

I have just now noticed the alternative text on your comics. I now have to reread them all :P

I’ve grown to hate alt-text, mainly because I read webcomics on my phone, so alt-text doesn’t work. I know the jokes are there, but I can’t read them.

Of course, often in situations like the one with the three factions and the McGuffin, you could have the ones the players have turn out to be a fake after they have fought it out over it. Awkwardness ensues.

    You can slightly have diarrhea.
